Slaidburn
Historic county of Yorkshire
Slaidburn nestles in the rolling green landscape of the Hodder Valley within the Forest of Bowland National Landscape.
The village is 18 miles west of Skipton, 10 miles south west of Settle and 11 miles south of High Bentham. It is 7 miles north of the nearest Lancashire town, Clitheroe.
The village has a pleasant riverside green between its bridge over the River Hodder and the Village Hall, which provides a venue for a wide range of community activities. The village's 15th century Church of St Andrew is a Grade I listed building.
In the heart of the Slaidburn are a shop and the village inn, a building dating back to the 16th century, although an inn is thought to have been there hundreds of years before that. Upstairs at the Hark to Bounty inn served as a manorial court during much of the 19th and into the 20th century.
Across the road is the village youth hostel, established in 1932 in what was once the Black Bull pub.
