UK's best fish and chips made in Yorkshire

It's official - the UK's best fish and chips are made in Yorkshire.

Winners of the 2018 National Fish and Chip Awards were announced in London on Thursday January 25 and the overall UK winner was Millers Fish & Chips, in the small town of Haxby, north of York.

Millers also picked up the prize for the North East England region of the awards, which are presented by the Seafish industry body. Millers were also finalists in the Marketing Innovation Award.

Another national award for Yorkshire went to Towngate Fisheries in Idle, near Bradford, West Yorkshire. They were national winners of the NFFF Fish and Chip Quality 'Champion' Award and an an Outstanding Achievement Award went to the shop's Mark Drummond.

Mister C's of Selby, North Yorkshire, was the national winner of the From Field To Frier Award, in which Towngate Fisheries was another finalist. Mister C's was a finalist in the Staff Training and Development Award and took first prize in the Young Fish Frier of the Year Competition, thanks to Peter Calvert.

A national award went to The Marcia Inn in Bishopthorpe, York, for Best Foodservice Operator.

Trenchers Restaurant in Whitby, North Yorkshire, was a finalist in the Fish and Chip Restaurant Award, and Catch Seafood, which has branches including Halifax and Holmfirth, was a finalist for the Best Multiple Fish and Chip Shop Operator Award.

Another Yorkshire finalist was Catering at Ravenscliffe at the Ravenscliffe High School and Sports College in Halifax. which won the Fish & Chip Friday School Meal Education Award.
